A Brief History of the EDC: Following the passage of a one-half cent sales tax for economic development, the Economic Development Corporation for the City of Goldthwaite was formed in June of 1997. The first revenues from the 4b sales tax were collected beginning in October 1997.
Prospective Use of Funds: Tax dollars generated by this plan can be used in a variety of ways to help promote business development, retention or expansion; used for incentives for business attraction; or for improvments to infastructure in support of economic development, for such projects as water and sewer lines or industrial site development. Projects which can be considered as economic development for the community range from business or industrial development, sports facilities, entertainment, tourism, recreational and park facilities, to any other project deemed by the board as contributing to the development of a new business or expansion of an existing enterprise. Applications forms to be considered for project funding are available at the Goldthwaite City hall at 1218 Fisher Street.
